We do receive several junk mails in our mail-box daily. No mail providers (gmail, yahoo, our own outlook, hotmail) and none of us are exceptional to it… J I often wondered from where in the world these people keep sending them to me..! I wanted to dig this out..! I found a way as well to locate the culprits..but nothing more I could do..!
Any e-mail transmitted comes with a big header along with the original message. That has the info what we are looking for… the only thing is we need to look into..First I’ll tell you how to get the e-mail headers in various mail clients. First I’ll take the header in gmail client.
Open the mail in the inbox.
Click the ‘Down arrow’ in the ‘Reply’ button available and select the ‘Show Original’
It’ll pop-up a new window with the original message. Something like

In the above header search for the ‘Received: from’ tag, you may find multiple tags. Locate the last one and note the IP address (highlighted above). Now We’ve got the IP address of the sender. (Probably his PC or the gateway he used). Now I’ll show you in the MS Outlook. In the outlook, Open the message. Navigate to the ‘View’à‘Options’ and you can get the internet headers in a edit-box. In MS-Outlook 2007 it’s bit different. Click the ‘Down arrow’ in the ‘Options’ ribbon.
You will get a dialogue box similar to this.
Now you have the internet header of your message (mail). Look for the IP as explained above. The next step is to find the location from IP. For this, there are so many utilities available in the web. My favorite is the http://www.ip2location.com . There you can query with the IP address to get the location information. Once queried you can get something like
Now you have the way to locate your spammers..Do share your feedback on this.
