At times I’ve felt pain in using the so called ‘Rich-Format Editor’ that is available online… I wanted some easier tool that would allow me to write blogs offline and publish it. Accidently I came across the publishing / blogging capability of MS-word. I’m not sure if this is available in earlier versions previous to 2007. Luckily I use it.
Just when I tried to open a new document from the ‘Office-button’ New..I found a ‘New Blog’ next to the blank document. Out of curiosity I selected that option. I opened me an dialog box to configure my publisher. It’s quite straight forward.
The first step : Select your Blog provider…If it’s not listed in this drop-down select the ‘Others’, you need to know more about the API, your provider has exposed for the same. Luckily I had my publisher available ..
The second step: Here you give your URL and login-credentials..that’s it..you are done….
Once done, you have a pretty-rich editor for you to blog… I’m trying my hand in my MS-word for blogging now…It gives you more control over your formatting and layout with lot of rich features. Probably I may be missing something…still I love writing like this… Just I can insert any word-arts, charts and lot what MS-word has to offer..
From my first post using MS-Word, I learnt the following
- When I open the already published blog, It opens only the portion prior to the <!–more–> tag… So editing a published blog becomes difficult..
- I don’t have options to add ‘tags’ to my post, but I’ve option to add ‘Category’ to my posts..
- ‘tags’ added from the usual online-editor after publishing it is getting lost when I re-open them in MS-Word…(so be careful when using it..)
Let me try using this for quite some time and learn what it has and lacks….I’ll keep updating the above list..
